What Invisalign Actually Is

Invisalign is a system of custom-made, removable clear aligners that move teeth in small, pre-planned increments. Instead of brackets bonded to your teeth and a wire adjusted at every visit, you wear a series of thin thermoplastic trays — each shaped slightly differently from the last — and change them on the schedule your orthodontist sets.

Two things make the system work:

  • Digital planning. Your teeth are scanned in 3D and every stage of movement is mapped before a single aligner is manufactured. Nothing is improvised at the chair.
  • Attachments. Small tooth-colored bumps bonded to selected teeth give the aligner something to grip, so it can rotate, extrude, or bodily move a tooth rather than simply tip it. If you're curious how these work, see our guide to Invisalign attachments.

The trade-off is honest: aligners only work while they're in your mouth. Twenty to twenty-two hours a day is the accepted target. Fall short consistently and teeth stop tracking the plan — which means refinements, delays, or both.

Invisalign vs Fixed Braces

FactorInvisalign clear alignersFixed braces
VisibilityNearly invisible in normal conversationVisible; ceramic options are less so
RemovableYes — for eating, brushing, photos, presentationsNo
EatingNo food restrictions; trays come outHard, sticky and chewy foods restricted
CleaningNormal brushing and flossingRequires threaders, interdental brushes, more time
ComfortPressure for 1–3 days after each new trayPressure after adjustments; occasional wire or bracket irritation
EmergenciesRare; a lost tray is inconvenient, not urgentBroken bracket or poking wire needs a chair visit
Visit frequencyRoughly every 6–10 weeks; some checks can be remoteTypically every 4–6 weeks, in person
Depends on youHeavily — compliance is the main variableMinimally — the appliance is fixed
Complex casesExcellent for mild to moderate; capable in many moderate-to-complex cases with planningStill the more predictable tool for severe cases

Neither option is universally better. The right answer depends on your bite, your bone, and your daily reality. Our full side-by-side is at Invisalign vs braces.

Who Invisalign Suits — and Who It Doesn't

Invisalign is a strong fit if you have:

  • Mild to moderate crowding or spacing
  • Mild to moderate overbite, overjet, crossbite or open bite
  • Relapse after childhood braces — very common among patients who stopped wearing retainers years ago
  • A professional or client-facing role where visible brackets are unwelcome
  • Good gum health and no untreated decay

It is not the right first choice for everyone. We will tell you directly if your case falls into one of these groups:

  • Severe skeletal discrepancies where the jaws, not the teeth, are the problem — these may need orthognathic surgery alongside orthodontics
  • Large extraction spaces requiring substantial bodily tooth movement
  • Impacted teeth needing surgical exposure and traction
  • Severe rotations of rounded teeth such as premolars and canines
  • Active gum disease or untreated decay, which must be stabilized first
  • Anyone who realistically will not wear trays 20–22 hours a day

In those situations we'll discuss fixed braces, a hybrid approach, or a referral. A treatment that can't deliver the result isn't a bargain at any price.

The Invisalign Options We Offer

Invisalign LiteMild to moderate correction, mostly front teeth8–14 months12,000–17,000

Choosing between these isn't a budget decision — it's a clinical one, based on how many teeth need to move and how far. More detail on each option is in our Invisalign types guide, and parents can read the Invisalign Teen page.

Your Treatment Journey, Step by Step

  1. Free consultation. Our orthodontist examines your bite, listens to what actually bothers you, and tells you honestly whether Invisalign is the right tool. No charge, no obligation.
  2. Digital records. An iTero scan replaces impression trays — no putty, no gagging, about ten minutes. Where clinically indicated we add 3D CBCT imaging to assess roots and bone.
  3. ClinCheck plan. You see a 3D simulation of the projected movement, stage by stage, before you commit. This is where you ask questions and we adjust the plan.
  4. Aligners fitted. Attachments are bonded, your first trays are checked for fit, and you're shown how to insert, remove, and clean them.
  5. Progress reviews. Roughly every 6–10 weeks. Frequent travelers can often combine visits or send photos between appointments.
  6. Refinement (common, not a failure). Many cases finish with a short additional set of aligners to perfect details. Plan for it rather than being surprised by it.
  7. Retainers. Fitted at the end, and permanent in the sense that wear never fully stops.

Realistic Timelines

Most Dubai patients finish somewhere between six and eighteen months. Simple front-tooth corrections can be done in under a year; full-arch cases with bite correction take longer. Anyone quoting a firm end date before seeing your scan is guessing.

Two local factors genuinely matter. During Ramadan, many patients find compliance easier — fewer snack breaks means fewer removals — but it's worth keeping a case in your bag for iftar. And in Dubai summer, never leave aligners in a parked car or on a poolside table: thermoplastic distorts in heat, and a warped tray no longer fits. Carry the case, and rinse trays in cool water, never hot.

What Invisalign Costs in Dubai

Our standard prices are published openly on our pricing page and in the table above — there's no quote-on-request game. What moves the price within any range: how many teeth need to move, how far, whether both arches are treated, and how many refinement stages the plan requires. Our cost breakdown explains each variable.

Limited-time offer: Invisalign from AED 8,000 to AED 10,000, including your initial consultation, professional cleaning, teeth whitening, and retainers at no extra cost. Because suitability depends entirely on your clinical case, exact eligibility and terms are confirmed at your free consultation — not over the phone. Full details are on the offer page.

Insurance and Paying in Installments

Orthodontic coverage varies by policy and employer, not by clinic: some UAE plans exclude it entirely, others cover part of it. Confirm your specific benefit with your insurer before committing to treatment — and we'll help you check it at your consultation. We can bill many major insurers directly, including Daman, AXA, Cigna, Bupa Global, Allianz Care, Oman Insurance, Neuron, Nextcare and Mednet; MetLife is normally handled by reimbursement. See Invisalign and insurance.

Where insurance doesn't cover treatment, interest-free installments are available through Tabby, Tamara and Postpay, so the cost can be spread across the treatment rather than paid upfront.

After Treatment: Protecting the Result

Teeth have memory. Without retainers they drift back — this is the single most common reason adults arrive asking about Invisalign a second time. Retainers are included in the current offer; separately they're AED 1,200–2,500 per set.

Expect full-time wear initially, tapering to nights indefinitely. Keep them out of the heat, replace them when they crack rather than when they fail, and treat the retainer as the last stage of treatment rather than an accessory. Our aftercare guide covers cleaning, replacement and what to do if a retainer stops fitting.
