Invisalign and Insurance in Dubai: What's Covered, What's Not

Insurance is the first question most Dubai patients ask about Invisalign, and the honest answer is that it depends entirely on your policy. Orthodontic benefits in the UAE are usually capped for life rather than annually, and adults are frequently excluded. Here is how to check your cover properly, what we can bill directly, and what to do if the answer is no.

Start with one question: does your policy include orthodontics at all?

Dental cover in the UAE is layered. Many entry-level resident plans exclude dental treatment entirely, or include only emergency and basic work such as extractions, fillings and pain relief. Orthodontics almost always sits above that, on enhanced or comprehensive tiers, and is often sold as an optional rider that an employer chooses to buy or skip.

So before you compare Invisalign to braces, or Express to Comprehensive, establish whether your plan carries an orthodontic benefit line at all. If it does not, no amount of clinical documentation will create one — and you move straight to the payment routes further down this page.

How UAE orthodontic benefits usually work

Where orthodontic cover does exist, the same handful of mechanics appear across most UAE policies:

  • A lifetime maximum, not an annual one. Orthodontic benefits are typically capped once per person for the life of the policy, commonly somewhere between AED 5,000 and AED 15,000 depending on the plan. Once it is used, it does not reset in January.
  • Co-insurance. The insurer usually pays a percentage of the approved fee and you pay the balance, up to that cap.
  • Age limits. Adult orthodontics is frequently excluded outright, with cover restricted to dependents below a stated age. Where adults are covered, the insurer may want evidence of functional need rather than aesthetic preference.
  • Aligners named — or not. Some policies cover "orthodontic treatment" generically. Others specify fixed appliances only, or reimburse clear aligners at the fixed-braces rate and leave you the difference.
  • Pre-authorization. Almost every UAE insurer requires written approval before treatment begins. Starting first and claiming afterwards is the most common reason an otherwise valid claim is refused.
  • Waiting periods. Some policies apply a waiting period from your join date before orthodontic benefits become available.

None of this is universal. It is the pattern, not a promise. Your policy wording is the only authority, and we will always ask you to confirm it in writing with your insurer.

Insurers we direct-bill

Direct billing means the approved portion is settled between the clinic and your insurer, and you pay only your share on the day rather than fronting the full fee and waiting for reimbursement.

Insurer / administratorBilling routeWhat still varies by policy
DamanDirect billingOrthodontic benefit depends on your tier and any employer add-on
AXADirect billingAdult orthodontics is often excluded on standard dental tiers
CignaDirect billingInternational plans may include ortho with a lifetime maximum
Bupa GlobalDirect billingDental is usually an optional module — confirm it was purchased
Allianz CareDirect billingOrthodontics generally sits on the higher dental modules only
Oman InsuranceDirect billingCap and co-insurance are set by your employer's policy schedule
NeuronDirect billingAdministers plans for several underwriters; terms follow the underlying policy
NextcareDirect billingAs above — the benefit belongs to the policy, not the administrator
MednetDirect billingAs above — approval still runs through your policy wording
MetLifeReimbursementYou settle with us; we issue the itemized invoice and clinical report for your claim

Insurer arrangements can change, so confirm the current position with our reception before you plan around it. Neuron, Nextcare and Mednet are third-party administrators rather than insurers, so two patients holding the same card can have very different orthodontic entitlements. Bring the card and the table of benefits, not just the card.

The documents to request before you commit

Email your insurer or HR benefits contact and ask for the following in writing. A phone call is not evidence.

  1. The full table of benefits or policy wording — not the one-page summary card.
  2. Written confirmation that an orthodontic benefit exists, with the lifetime maximum and how much of it remains.
  3. Whether clear aligners are covered by name, excluded, or paid at the fixed-braces rate.
  4. The co-insurance percentage and any deductible you pay per claim.
  5. Any age limit or adult exclusion, and what the insurer accepts as functional need.
  6. Any waiting period, and your eligibility date.
  7. The pre-authorization procedure and expected turnaround.
  8. Whether retainers, refinements and replacement aligners fall inside or outside the same cap.

That last point matters more than people expect. Retention is lifelong; a policy that funds the aligners but not the retainers has funded half the result.

How pre-authorization works at our clinic

At your free consultation, our orthodontist assesses the case with an iTero digital scan, photographs and, where indicated, 3D CBCT imaging, then builds a ClinCheck plan showing the intended tooth movements. That package — clinical findings, diagnosis, planned duration, treatment codes and the itemized fee — is what we submit for approval. You can read the full clinical sequence on our Invisalign process page.

We submit; the insurer decides. Approvals are sometimes partial, covering a share of a case rather than the whole fee, so we quote your out-of-pocket figure both ways — approved and unapproved — before you commit to anything.

If Invisalign is not covered

Most adult patients on Sheikh Zayed Road end up self-funding, and that is entirely normal. Two things make it manageable:

  • Interest-free installments through Tabby, Tamara and Postpay, so the fee is spread across months rather than paid in one transfer.
  • Our current offer: Invisalign from AED 8,000 to AED 10,000, with the initial consultation, professional cleaning, teeth whitening and retainers included at no extra cost. That sits below our standard pricing, and the full terms are on the offer page.

Eligibility depends on your clinical case — the complexity of your crowding, bite and tooth movements decides which treatment tier you actually need. We confirm exactly what applies to you at the free consultation, not before. For the standard tier-by-tier breakdown, see our Invisalign cost guide.

Corporate and employer plans

If you work in DIFC, Downtown or Business Bay, your dental benefit was chosen by your employer, and enhanced dental riders are common at that end of the market. Two practical notes:

  • Your benefit year usually follows the employer's policy renewal date, not the calendar year. Check when it resets before assuming you have time.
  • Some employers offer flexible benefit top-ups at renewal, which is the moment to add dental cover if orthodontics matters to you.

Job moves are frequent in Dubai, and a new employer means a new policy — with a new cap, and sometimes a fresh waiting period. Because Invisalign fees here are agreed upfront rather than charged month by month, a mid-treatment insurer change does not alter what you owe us, but it can affect what you are able to claim back. Ask before you switch.

What we will not do

We will not tell you that your treatment is covered. We do not underwrite your policy, we cannot see your remaining lifetime maximum, and we have no influence over an insurer's decision. What we will do is document your case properly, submit it correctly, quote you honestly in both scenarios, and back the result with our 12-month treatment guarantee.

Bring your insurance card and table of benefits to your free consultation — we are a five-minute walk from World Trade Centre Metro, with tower parking on site. Book your consultation and we will go through your cover line by line.

A note on suitability. Invisalign is not right for every case, and the package your case needs is confirmed only after a clinical exam and 3D scan. Your consultation is free and carries no obligation — see full pricing or read the FAQ.
