Visit 1: The Free Consultation and iTero Scan
Everything starts with one appointment that costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Allow 45 to 60 minutes.
Your orthodontist examines your teeth, bite, gums and jaw joints, then asks the question that shapes the whole plan: what actually bothers you? Lower front crowding, a gap that has widened over the years, an edge that keeps catching, a wedding eight months away. The answer decides whether you need a short, focused case or full-arch correction — the differences are set out on our Invisalign types page.
Then we take records:
- iTero digital scan. A small wand passes over your teeth and builds a full-color 3D model on screen in a few minutes. No impression trays, no putty, no gagging.
- 3D CBCT or standard radiographs where clinically indicated, so root position and bone level are known before a single tooth is moved.
- Photographs and a bite assessment, which become your baseline record.
One honest caveat: aligners do not start on unhealthy foundations. Active decay or gum inflammation is treated first — our periodontist handles the gum side — because teeth move through bone, and bone has to be healthy. You can see who you will be treated by on our team page.
You leave with a clinical opinion, an indicative treatment length and a written price. We work with the major UAE insurers, including Daman, AXA, Cigna, Bupa Global, Allianz Care, Oman Insurance, Neuron, Nextcare and Mednet, but orthodontic cover varies by policy and many adult plans exclude it entirely — we check what your specific plan says and you should confirm the terms directly with your insurer. Details are on our insurance page. Interest-free installments through Tabby, Tamara or Postpay are also explained at this visit, not sprung on you later, and full figures are on our Invisalign cost page.
Behind the Scenes: Your ClinCheck 3D Simulation
Your scan goes into Align's planning software, where your orthodontist designs the movement sequence tooth by tooth: which tooth moves, in which direction, at which stage, and where the bite needs to end up. Patients underestimate this part. The aligners are only ever as good as the plan behind them.
At your ClinCheck review, usually one to two weeks after the scan and taking 20 to 30 minutes, you watch a 3D simulation of your own teeth moving from where they are now to where they will finish. This is the moment to speak up — if a midline, an edge or a final position is not what you had in mind, it is changed on screen, not months into treatment. Nothing is manufactured until you approve.
Visit 2: Aligner Fitting and Attachments
Manufacture and shipping take roughly three to four weeks. The fitting appointment runs 45 to 60 minutes.
Your teeth are cleaned and dried, then small tooth-colored composite bumps — attachments — are bonded to selected teeth. They are not decorative: they give the plastic something to grip so a tooth can be rotated or uprighted rather than just tipped. Most people stop noticing them fairly quickly; the detail is covered on our attachments page.
Your first aligners are then fitted and checked for seating, and you are shown how to insert and remove them without stressing the plastic. Expect firm pressure and a tight feeling for the first two or three days, and a slight lisp on "s" sounds that usually settles quickly.
The Wear Routine and Changing Trays
- Wear them 20 to 22 hours a day. Wear time is the biggest variable you control in how long treatment takes.
- Change to the next tray on the schedule your orthodontist sets, commonly every 7 to 10 days. Switch in the evening so the tightest hours pass while you sleep.
- Remove for everything except plain water. Coffee, karak and juice will stain the plastic and trap sugar against enamel.
- Brush or rinse before reinserting. Clean aligners with lukewarm water and a soft brush.
- Never rinse in hot water and never leave a case on a car dashboard in a Dubai summer — the plastic distorts and the tray no longer fits.
- Store them in the case, never a napkin. Napkins get thrown away.
Review Appointments Every 6 to 8 Weeks
Reviews are short: 15 to 30 minutes. Your orthodontist checks that teeth are tracking to the plan, that attachments are intact, that your gums are healthy, and then hands over the next batch of trays. If a tooth is lagging, it is caught here rather than at the end.
IPR: Making Space When It Is Needed
Some crowded cases need room. Interproximal reduction polishes a fraction of a millimeter of enamel — typically 0.2 to 0.5 mm — between selected contacts using a fine strip or disc. It takes a few minutes, usually needs no anesthetic, and is planned to stay within accepted enamel limits. It is set out in the ClinCheck, so you will know in advance whether your case needs it.
Refinements: The Final Detailing
When the planned series finishes, teeth are compared against the target. If one or two have not fully arrived, a fresh iTero scan produces a short refinement series to finish the detail. Refinements are a normal, planned stage of Invisalign, not a sign that something went wrong — and how they are handled for your case is confirmed in writing before you start, alongside our treatment guarantee.
Finishing: Attachments Off, Retainers On
At the final visit the attachments are removed with a fine bur and the enamel is polished smooth. Whitening, which is included in the current offer, is often done at this point while the teeth are freshly aligned. A last scan produces your retainers.
Retention is not optional. Teeth have a lifelong tendency to drift, so retainers are worn full-time at first and then nightly, long term. The routine is set out on our aftercare page.

Fitting Treatment Around Life in Dubai
Scheduling around work. We are on the 22nd floor of Burj Al Salam Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road, a five-minute walk from World Trade Centre Metro, with parking in the tower. From DIFC, Downtown or Business Bay a review visit fits into a lunch break. Booking early morning or after 6pm keeps you off Sheikh Zayed Road at its worst.
Travel. Expat schedules involve long trips. Tell us your dates and we can often release several trays in advance. Always carry your current, next and previous aligner in hand luggage, never in a checked bag.
Ramadan. Fasting hours usually help rather than hinder, because aligners stay in for longer stretches. Remove them for suhoor and iftar, brush before reinserting, and book reviews early in the morning or after iftar.
Climate. Air conditioning and heat both dry the mouth, and a dry mouth under aligners raises decay risk. Drink plenty of plain water in the hours you can.
