Tooth Extractions
About This Treatment
When a tooth cannot be saved, our oral surgery team performs extractions with minimal discomfort using advanced techniques and anesthesia. We specialize in surgical extraction of impacted wisdom teeth, often combining extraction with socket preservation grafting to maintain bone for future implant placement.

Your Complete Guide
When does a tooth actually need to come out?
Extraction is always our last resort. Modern endodontics and restorative dentistry can rescue teeth that would have been hopeless a generation ago, so before we recommend removal we confirm the tooth genuinely cannot be saved. Common reasons include decay that has destroyed the tooth below the gum line, a vertical root fracture, advanced gum disease that has loosened the tooth beyond repair, a failed root canal that cannot be retreated, or planned orthodontic treatment that needs space. If the tooth is restorable, we will tell you — and often root canal treatment is the smarter long-term choice.
Every extraction at Paradise Dental starts with 3D CBCT imaging. Seeing the roots in three dimensions — including their exact relationship to the sinus floor or the nerve canal in the lower jaw — lets us classify the case correctly and avoid surprises mid-procedure.
Simple vs. surgical: what's the difference?
| Simple extraction | Surgical extraction | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical case | Fully erupted tooth, intact crown | Broken-down, impacted, or curved-root tooth |
| Anesthesia | Local | Local, with IV sedation available |
| Technique | Elevation and forceps | Small incision, sometimes sectioning the tooth |
| Typical healing | 3–7 days | 7–14 days |
The procedure, step by step
- Planning. CBCT review, medical history check, and a clear discussion of what happens to the space afterward.
- Anesthesia. Profound local numbing is standard. For anxious patients or complex surgical cases, IV sedation is administered by a licensed anesthetist, so you rest comfortably through the appointment.
- Removal. For surgical cases we use piezosurgery — ultrasonic instruments that work selectively on hard tissue, preserving the surrounding bone and soft tissue far better than rotary drills alone.
- Socket management. Where an implant is planned later, we place a preservation graft at the same visit so the bone volume is protected.
- Aftercare briefing. You leave with written instructions, and our team checks in on you the following day.
Recovery and aftercare in Dubai
The first 24 hours are about protecting the blood clot: bite gently on gauze, skip rinsing, spitting, and straws, and hold a cold compress against the cheek in short intervals. From day two, warm salt-water rinses and soft foods take over.
Two Dubai-specific notes. First, hydrate generously in our climate — but keep drinks cool rather than hot for the first day, as heat encourages bleeding. Second, postpone gym sessions and outdoor training for 48–72 hours; exertion in summer temperatures raises blood pressure and can dislodge the clot. Most patients with desk jobs on Sheikh Zayed Road are back at work the next morning; surgical cases may prefer a day or two of lighter duties.
Cost and insurance in Dubai
The fee depends on whether the extraction is simple or surgical, how deeply a tooth is impacted, whether sedation is chosen, and whether socket preservation grafting is added. You will receive a fixed written quote before anything begins — see our pricing page for current treatment ranges.
Medically necessary extractions are covered by many UAE health plans. We offer direct billing with Daman, AXA, Cigna, Bupa Global, Allianz Care, Oman Insurance, Neuron, Nextcare, and Mednet, and our front desk verifies your coverage before treatment so there are no surprises. Interest-free instalments through Tabby, Tamara, and Postpay are available for any uncovered portion, and your first consultation is free.
Think one step ahead
The most important extraction decision is what fills the space afterward. Leaving a gap allows neighboring teeth to drift and opposing teeth to over-erupt, which complicates future treatment. Discuss implant, bridge, or orthodontic options with us before the tooth comes out — planning the replacement first almost always produces a better, less expensive result.
