Dental Crowns & Bridges in Dubai

Last updated September 2026

About This Treatment

Dental crowns fully encase a weakened or damaged tooth, restoring its strength, shape, and appearance. Bridges span the gap left by one or more missing teeth, anchoring to adjacent teeth for a fixed, non-removable solution. Crowns and bridges can be made from ceramics such as lithium disilicate or zirconia, chosen for strength and appearance.

Your Complete Guide

Key facts

  • Crown: a custom-made cap that covers the whole visible part of a damaged tooth.
  • Bridge: one or more false teeth fixed to neighbouring teeth, most commonly by crowns on the teeth either side of the gap; only a dentist can remove it.
  • Visits: usually two, with a temporary crown worn in between.
  • Comfort: the tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic; mild sensitivity for a few days is common.
  • Cost: depends mainly on the material and number of units. See the cost table above and our price list.

When a crown or bridge makes sense

A crown is usually recommended when a tooth is cracked, heavily filled, worn flat by grinding, or weakened by extensive root canal treatment, where a filling can no longer hold it together. The ADA notes that crowns are also used to cover dental implants and anchor bridges.

A bridge suits a gap of one or two teeth when the neighbouring teeth are strong enough to carry the load, especially if they already need crowns. Active gum disease is usually treated first, and a tooth with too little structure left may need a core build-up or a different plan.

Crown, veneer or filling?

It depends on how much healthy tooth remains and whether the aim is strength or appearance.

RestorationSuited toTooth removed
FillingSmall to medium cavitiesOnly the decay
OnlayLarge cavities or one or two weak cuspsDecay plus damaged cusps
VeneerSound front teeth needing a new colour or shapeA thin front layer
CrownBroken-down, cracked or root-filled teethA layer all around

For healthy front teeth with a cosmetic concern, porcelain veneers need far less reduction. For smaller cavities, a tooth-coloured filling keeps more of the natural tooth.

Crown, bridge or implant?

OptionSuited toTypical timeline
CrownDamaged tooth, sound rootUsually 2 visits, 1–2 weeks apart
Bridge1–2 missing teeth; neighbours need crowns anywayAbout 2–3 weeks
ImplantMissing tooth, healthy teeth either sideSeveral months while bone heals

Trimming healthy teeth to anchor a bridge sacrifices sound enamel, so in that situation dental implants often make better long-term sense, provided there is enough jawbone (or it can be rebuilt) and your general health suits the surgery involved.

What affects the cost

The cost table gives indicative ranges for a single crown and a three-unit bridge. Within them, the main drivers are:

Material and laboratory work

A hand-shaded ceramic crown for a front tooth takes more laboratory time than a full-contour back-tooth crown.

Number of units

A three-unit bridge is two crowns plus the false tooth between them.

Preparatory work

A core build-up, post, root canal treatment or removal of an old crown each adds to the total.

From preparation to fitting

Visit 1: preparation (typically about an hour)

  1. Assessment. Your dentist checks the tooth and, often with an X-ray, the root and surrounding bone.
  2. Numbing. Local anaesthetic numbs the tooth and gum.
  3. Build-up if needed. Decay and weak old filling are removed and missing structure rebuilt.
  4. Shaping. A thin layer is removed all around so the crown will not look bulky.
  5. Impression and shade. An impression or digital scan records the tooth and your bite, and the shade is matched to neighbouring teeth.
  6. Temporary. A temporary crown is fixed with softer cement.

Laboratory phase (typically 1–2 weeks)

A dental technician makes the crown or bridge. As the NHS notes, this takes time, which is why you wear a temporary.

Visit 2: fitting (typically 30–60 minutes)

Your dentist checks the fit at the gum line, the contacts and the shade, then cements or bonds the crown and adjusts your bite until it feels even.

Looking after a temporary crown

  • Avoid sticky foods (dates, toffee and caramel are the usual culprits), nuts and ice.
  • Chew mainly on the other side.
  • Floss gently, sliding it out sideways rather than lifting.
  • Keep it on: it protects the tooth and stops neighbouring teeth drifting, which would spoil the final fit.

If it comes off, keep it and call Paradise Dental Clinic on +971 58 520 9623. Emergency appointments are available during opening hours, every day 10:00–20:00.

Aftercare and lifespan

Mild cold sensitivity for a few days is normal, so go easy on iced drinks, an everyday reality in a Dubai summer. After that:

  • Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and clean between teeth.
  • Clean under a bridge daily with superfloss or a water flosser; the gum line beneath the false tooth is where trouble starts.
  • If you grind, ask about a night guard, as grinding is a common cause of chipped crowns.
  • Do not crunch ice or open bottles with your teeth.

Crowns and bridges do not last forever. Lifespan depends on the material, your bite and above all the tooth underneath: decay at the crown's edge and gum disease around bridge anchors are common causes of failure. Full-contour zirconia and gold tend to be the hardest-wearing; layered porcelain chips more easily.

Contact your dentist if your bite feels high after the numbness wears off, pain worsens instead of settling, or a crown feels loose.

Insurance

UAE dental cover is often an add-on with its own annual limit. Crowns and bridges usually count as major restorative treatment, so pre-approval is common and co-payments can be higher. Cover typically applies when a crown is clinically necessary, for example after a fracture or root canal treatment; purely cosmetic work is usually excluded. Check your limit, co-pay and pre-approval rules with your insurer first, and keep an itemised invoice if you claim back.
